Schedule & Upcoming Events
HANDCYCLING Registration began on Monday, June 9th, and is on a first come, first serve basis. Please do not leave a voice message — Make sure you speak to Toni Moore, IGO secretary. Hand Cycle Clinics — Pre-Registration is required. Bring the family out and try a new way of cycling. People with or without disabilities are welcome to come out and try this upper body workout. These clinics are designed to help facilitate proper training and outfitting of IGO hand cycles that are available during our cycling rides. Riding distances will vary between 2-4 miles over mostly flat terrain. Five hand cycles are available from IGO and first priority will be given to people with physical disabilities. Helmets are required. For 13 and over (only with participating adult). Activity Level: Easy (some minor inclines)
Fee: $5.00 Maximum: 7 (maximum I can serve during 2 hours) Only 5 handcycles are available for rental. IGO reserves the right to fit you for the best bike for your ability. Instructor: Rosenthal CYCLING Ice Cream Social Join us for a leisurely 12-mile bicycle ride along the Ohio & Erie Canal towpath. The group will start at Lock 39 Gateway on Rockside Road and peddle south for 6 miles. After this short trip, return north on the towpath for an ice cream treat at Thornburg Station. This is a great activity for the whole family. Families Activity Level: Moderate (12 miles round trip, relatively flat terrain) July 27, 4 - 7 p.m. Lock 39 Gateway, Independence Fee: $10 (includes ice cream treat) Maximum: 20 Bike for your Lunch Bring the family together for this 16-mile round trip cycling ride to the Emerald Necklace Marina. Meet at Rocky River Nature Center and follow the All Purpose Trail to lunch together at Sweetwater Landing. After lunch, return to the nature center and explore the wonders of the Rocky River with your family. Don’t forget to bring shopping money! Families Activity Level: Moderate August 23, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Rocky River Nature Center Fee: $15 (includes lunch) Maximum: 20 The IGO Mission: To provide a wide range of enjoyable outdoor experiences which enable participants of all abilities to develop or enhance low impact outdoor skills, promote outdoor education and environmental ethics. Our Goals: To provide learning opportunities which promote personal growth, ethical relationships with nature, and low-impact outdoor experiences. To offer skill-building and skill-enhancement programs which enable participants to build competency and enjoy safe outdoor experiences. To present programs in locations outside of Cleveland Metroparks lands which further participants’ understanding of the ecology of North America, environmental problems and potential solutions. Inclusive Outdoor Recreation Opportunities: All IGO programs have been evaluated regarding accessibility and activity level. With our professionally trained staff and ability to make equipment adaptations, most programs are accessible to anyone who would like to participate.
